Machame Route
Known as the "Whiskey Route," Machame is the most popular path to Uhuru Peak. It offers stunning scenic variety, excellent acclimatization with its climb-high-sleep-low profile, and a high summit success rate.

Overview
The Machame Route, affectionately known as the "Whiskey Route," is the most popular trail on Mount Kilimanjaro and for good reason. This route offers the most stunning scenic variety of all the paths, taking you through all five climate zones from the lush rainforest at the base, through the otherworldly moorland, across the stark alpine desert, and up into the arctic zone near the summit. The Machame Route follows a climb-high-sleep-low acclimatization profile, which is the single most important factor in achieving a successful summit. On Day 4, you climb to Lava Tower at 4,630m before descending to Barranco Camp at 3,960m, giving your body crucial time to adapt to the altitude. The dramatic Barranco Wall scramble on Day 5 is one of the most thrilling and memorable sections of any Kilimanjaro route. The route approaches the summit from Barafu Camp, with a midnight push to Uhuru Peak to witness sunrise over the African continent.
