Discover Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania's most underrated safari destinations, offering an experience that rivals the Serengeti in spectacle but with a fraction of the visitor numbers. The park is named after the Tarangire River, which becomes the only permanent water source in the region during the dry season, drawing thousands of animals from the surrounding Maasai Steppe. From June to October, the park hosts one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Tanzania, with herds of up to 300 elephant, towering columns of zebra and wildebeest, and large numbers of buffalo, giraffe, and antelope. The landscape is defined by ancient baobab trees — some over a thousand years old — and termite mound-dotted grasslands that give the park its distinctive character. Tarangire is also one of the best places in Tanzania for bird watching, with over 550 recorded species, including the endemic ashy starling and yellow-collared lovebird. The park's southern wilderness zone offers exclusive walking safari experiences through remote, untouched terrain.
